Red Satin 1930s Dress with an Art Déco Buckle

£695.00

Spectacular early 1930s evening gown in heavy silk satin in luscious deep red colour.

The front, with wide shoulder straps, features elegant pleats and tucks that accentuate the shape of the bust. The skirt flows freely from the high waist, sloping to a low back, following the natural body curves thanks to a bias cut characteristic of the period.

The dress fastens at the back with a row of hooks and eyes, covered with gathered silk panels, fastened with a stunning geometric buckle on the waist level.

The sparkling rhinestone Art Deco buckle attracts even more attention to the spectacular open back of the dress.

Inside labels: Ransohoffs / Made Under DRESS CODE AUTHORITY HPD

This signifies that the dress was probably made under the regulations of the National Recovery Administration (NRA), a prime agency established by U.S. president Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1933, which makes it a very special piece of history.

The dress is in very good condition, with some marks of wear and small holes in the fabric, which is expected of a garment of that age. The silk satin fabric in deep red has a luxurious sheen and is soft in touch.
